Wycombe and Brighton fought out a 1-1 draw in a full-blooded encounter at the Causeway Stadium.

The point gained was of no use really to either side with Wycombe still rooted at the foot of the table and Brighton still harbouring strong play-off plans.

The strangest event of the afternoon occurred with five minutes left when Wycombe manager Tony Adams had to leave the stadium due to his girlfriend giving birth to a baby.

Adams had seen his side more than hold their own against a team to whom the Chairboys had lost 4-0 just six weeks ago.

The visitors took the lead on 33 minutes. Their first corner of the game taken by Paul Watson caused havoc in the panic-stricken defence and on-loan Leicester hitman Trevor Benjamin stabbed the ball in from close range.

Wycombe equalised on the stroke of half time. On-loan Reading striker Nathan Tyson beat the offside trap and finished calmly past former Wycombe and Middlesbrough goalkeeper Ben Roberts.

Tyson was on the prowl again just two minutes into the second half, but his fierce 20-yard strike rattled the side-netting.

Former Chelsea striker Leon Knight raced through the home defence on 57 minutes, but delayed his shot and Wycombe's Danny Senda got back superbly to put in a saving tackle.

The Chairboys had further opportunities in the last ten minutes to secure three valuable points but home skipper Michael Simpson headed over when it seemed impossible to miss.

With just five minutes remaining, Scott Marshall thought he'd grabbed the all-important winner but his header was touched onto the bar by a relieved goalkeeper.
