Just Not Good Enough (Palace 5 Albion 0)

Five corners and a free-kick in the first 4 minutes, then they scored their first goal. That should have been the cue to leave early.

But we can't can we, we're true supporters. We've been waiting 13 years to play Palace again. In that time we've nearly gone out of the Football League and probably out of existence too.

It's not just that we lost to Palace, not even that we lost 5-0, nor the fact that losing 12 league games in a row is a Club Record. These players have been real heroes in winning successive Championships, but they proved again yesterday that they are just not good enough for Division One.

Last Saturday we were 2-0 up with 20 mins to go. We lost 4-2. This week we were 5-0 down inside the hour. That's 9 goals against, and zero for, in less than 90 minutes of football.

Now we're being drip fed Stories of Zamora going. 'If Zamora goes in January then we can bring in 3 or 4 players of Division One Standard'. At this rate January will be too late.

The Hall of Shame

Kuipers
- His flapping at the early corners cost us the first goal, and he was nowhere for the second. Last Season no-one would have scored like they did from the acute angle they did fothe fifth.

Mayo - Kerry, we were playing in Black! His passing and heading out of defence was extremely poor, probably not helped at all by the fact that Brooker was (supposedly) playing in front of him.

Watson - Needs to learn how to tackle, I can't remember the last time I saw him tackle, as soon as someone runs at him, they're already past him because there's no resistance. AND it's about time he learnt to use that right foot, how many times have I seen him give away a free-kick/throw-in/corner as he tries to shield the ball out because he can't use his Right Peg.

Cullip - Got in some good headed clearances. was extremely late for their first pen, but probably his only mistake.

Blackwell - Had a decent first game, could be a decent partnership with Cullip (if we had some full-backs)

Brooker - Had one good run at their defence, gave away the second pen and got sent off for it. Didn't make any difference that he wasn't on the pitch. He left their Winger, Wayne Routledge, with so much space, it's no wonder that Kerry was under pressure. Ever heard of getting goal side Paul?

Hart - Still a star, never stopped battling.

Oatway - Never saw the ball, we by-passed the midfield with our hoofing out of defence

Carpenter - Ditto Oatway

Zamora - Had a quiet game, couldn't really get into it. Should have pulled the ball back into the middle, instead of blasting from such an acute angle towards the end of the first half.

Barrett - Showed some good touches, with the commitment of Harty. Shame he's a gooner and not a Seagull.

We won our 2 Championships by playing, in the main, 4-5-1. We get to this division and play 4-4-2 all the time.

4-5-1 gives us the extra man in the middle of the park. When defending this means that one of them can commit to the tackle while the others cover & get into position, slowing down the attack, allowing us time to get organised.

In defence we have options to pass the ball out, or to use the channels or play up to the lone striker, who, with back to goal has more options.

So, I say, drop Brooker play Zamora or Barrett wide left (a la Heskey) and bring in Rodger as the extra man in Midfield.

Yes, we need more new faces, but let's make the most of what we've got now.
