Sven-Goran Eriksson has thrown his weight behind Brighton's plans for a new community stadium at Falmer.

Eriksson has given the Seagulls' proposals a ringing endorsement following discussions with their chairman Dick Knight.

His message, which is being displayed on billboards throughout Brighton and Hove, reads: "The beautiful new Brighton stadium is of national importance."

"It is vital that we have world-class facilities country-wide to support the national game."

Knight added: "We set out to design a stadium of the highest quality, to serve not only as the shining venue of Albion's next 100 years, but also as a potential location for future international matches, to the huge benefit of our city.

"I am delighted that Sven-Goran Eriksson, a man at the pinnacle of international sport, identifies with Brighton's aims and fully supports them."
