Stokes did not make the starting eleven for the game at Millwall. When it became clear that he would not be starting against Bournemouth he told Wilkins that he wanted to return to Upton Park.
Wilkins told The Argus: "He was being considered for the bench but when somebody says they don't want to be here I feel it is only right they are not used."
Meanwhile Wayne Hendersons transfer request has been turned down.
