Poyet has been linked with a loan move for Stoke's third-choice goalkeeper Simonsen as cover for broken-finger victim Kuipers, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
However, Poyet was buoyed by the performance of back-up keeper Peter Brezovan during Monday night's goalless draw at Colchester.
"I'm very pleased for him, he's a great lad to have around," said Poyet.
"It's great for the defence and for the club, because losing Michel was a big blow."
