Ravens view of Sheffield Wednesday

Last updated : 26 October 2005 By Mark R

We stopped for some food and drink just outside Sheffield, then parked up at the BP garage for £2.50 about a five minute walk from the away end. Not many Albion fans at this game, probably 400, so we had just the one block from front to back of the upper tier.

We were noisy when we sang, but sadly there was long periods of silence, the home support was poor (until they scored). 1 Brighton fan (Sheffield local I would guess) was chucked out for swearing (he kept phoning his mates in the home stand) and lost it big time when we went 1 down, he language was a bit OTT, but the Stewards near us where a pain the neck and asked one lad to stop shouting, he rightly pointed out he was at football and would shout as much as he wanted. The chief steward then intervened and the stewards backed off.

I imagine most people saw the game, but I thought we were poor and deserved not a lot, so for us to get a last minute goal against Sheff Wed was very sweet after they did it to us a couple of years ago.

It was a great finish by CKR after good work by Jarrett and Carole. As for the Sheff Wed goal, a good save by Henderson but we were caught ball watching as they knocked in the rebound (would have been the same as at Palace but for the nice linesman).

My MOTM was the Sheff Wed number 19 (Chris Eagle - on loan from Man Utd), he was lively for the whole game and beat our players with ease at times. How Sheffield Wed didn't score 2 or 3 more was beyond me, and for them to let us nick a point shows why they are down the bottom.

The drive home was in appalling weather, it rained nearly all the way back, but Straws tours ploughed on regardless. I was back home in West Hoathly just before 2am.

Henderson - 7 another good display, not his fault for the goal

Reid - 6 defended deep

Butters - 6 solid display

McShane - 7 once again a good all round display

Hart - 5 was beaten easily several times

Oatway - 5 poor display, gave away the ball too often

Frutos - 6 battled hard

Hammond - 7 110% effort, lucky not to get a second yellow card for a bad tackle

Carole - 6 I wish he would run at the opponents more often, did it once and set up the goal

Robinson - 4 poor display, not really involved in anything

Knight - 6 not much better than Robinson, but did more closing down and running back

Jarrett - 7 looked up for it and his run at the defence set up Carole for the cross and the goal

CKR - 7 battled, ran, chased and deserved his goal

Streaker - 10 and a fine set of assets bobbling about during a great cross field run and a good bear hug on Peacock! Showed good speed but was soon under control after being surrounded by 4 burly men in Yellow coats -
