Ravens View of Reading

Last updated : 10 August 2005 By Mark R

Our midfield, other than Hammond, was missing big time. Reading bossed the game without looking particularly good, and Kitson made us look mugs on several occasions. He along with the Reading keeper stood out as the best players on the pitch for me.

At the back we were exposed for pace, Butters had a 50 yard run against Lita and lost out big time, next it was Mayo who had the ball put past him and the player just run round him because of his lack of pace.

Reading deserved the 3 points as they look dangerous time and time again, we didn't.

Well we didn't until Robinson and the Argentinian came on and made a difference. Shame Robinson only got 7 minutes (plus 3 stoppage).

The first goal was a free kick driven in by Little. McShane and Butters failed to connect, the Reading players the same and before you could say "that looks dangerous", Henderson had somehow misjudged it completely and it was in the net.

CKR had a great shot just before half time, about 25 yards out, but it was pushed away for a corner by the keeper.

Second half and no changes, not sure why. The game was a bit dead for long periods, we couldn't create anything and Reading kept closing us down, with Sidwell never stopping.

The second goal was dire. A cross and easy header for Kitson. I thought Henderson had it, then dropped it and it was over the line, too far away to see properly.

After that we did try and attack, Dodd was off, Reid back to right back and the Argentinian was up front.

We then created nothing at all until with 7 minutes left Robinson was on for CKR. He immediately kicked start the match

for us with some nimble running at the Reading defence. Turienzo sparked to life and his first real contribution was a mega dive, luckily we got a corner. The Reading defence were furious with him and let him know!

He then had 2 good shots pushed over the bar by the keeper.

Henderson - 5 two great saves but 2 soft goals

Mayo - 4 dreadful distribution and regularly beaten for pace

Butters - 4 caught for pace and distribution was back to the hoof, why? He is better than that

McShane - 6 only player at the back to show any composure

Dodd - 3 very poor match, slow, poor corners and free kicks, lets hope he gets back in the groove

Reid - 4 too slow on the ball, regularly passes to other players and put them in trouble

Oatway - 4 didn't do anything

Carpenter - 4 too slow, didn't do anything

Hammond - 6 tried hard, but no support

Knight - 6 battled hard but often left isolated

CKR - 5 very little impact, but needs time to adjust

Turienzo (for Dodd) - 7 looked for the ball and at least had attempts on goal

Robinson - 7 looked lively and deserves a starting spot

Martin, El-Abd and Nicolas not used
