Ravens View of Port Vale 1 Brighton 1

Last updated : 17 March 2004 By Mark R

The ground has not changed since our last visit. The "new" main stand still only has seats in up to the half way line. Its another good away end to make some noise, and we certainly did that.

It has been strange going back to Grimsby (took 4,000 last season and 312 this time round) and now Port Vale (4,500 two years ago and 500 today). I didn't hear many people complaining of not getting into the two matches this season!

As for the match, well we went 1-0 up early on thanks to a very stupid handball. Knight scored from the spot with his usual delay before slotting the ball past the already moving keeper.

About 10 minutes later, Charlie gives away a silly free kick and they head in the equaliser. After that I don't remember us having a shot on target. Virgo pulled one wide in the second half after a good break from his own half. Roberts made a couple of good stops and I was pleased to hear the final whistle.

We just made our train back home (via Derby) and bumped into the Rotherham London supporters we know (they had just lost 1-0 to Derby) and were soon Sussex bound and back by 10.30!

So a win a Chesterfield tomorrow night please!

Roberts - 7 good handling all game

Harding - 7 looking good, great distribution of the ball

Virgo - 8 great game, solid tackles and a couple of storming runs up front - close to my MOTM

Cullip - 7 solid

Butters - 8 great display and my MOTM

Carpenter - 7 battled

Oatway - 7 as above

Hart - 7 as above

Jones - 7 solid

Piercy - 7 spent more time chasing back than attacking

Knight - 8 never stopped running, looked well up for it

Robinson (on for Piercy 55 minutes) - 6 looked like a small boy playing a

mans game today, I think a physical player was needed, but McGhee went with

Jake! Why was McPhee not on the bench?

Mayo (on for Jones 66 minutes)- 6 pushed forward well and supported Harding,

but still resorted to the long ball as first option

El-Abd, Lee and Jones not used
