Ravens View of Crewe

Last updated : 05 March 2007 By Bob Gear

We watched some of the Liverpool v Man Utd match in one pub, but the drunk Brighton fans drove us out with there constant singing so you couldnt hear yourself talking!

We moved onto the British Lion and had a much more civilised beer and we could hear the conversations!

We got to the ground about 2.55 and looked forward to trying to get a point at Gresty Road. The match was entertaining with both sides trying to play passing and attacking football.

Both sides looked lively but after about 20 minutes Hammonds wayward pass went to the Crewe attacker, he was surrounded by 4 defenders but he bypassed Butters, El-Abd backed off and then Flinders was beaten by a good cross shot that found the corner of the net.

Crewe suddenly found form and took us apart for the next 10 mins but Flinders pulled off 2 great saves to keep us in the game.

We found our way back and from a scrammble, Hammonds shot was cleared from the line but Bas Savage managed to squeeze the ball past 4 or 5 defenders and the keeper to make it

1-1 and we then saw a new moonwalk as he celebrated in his unusual fashion.

The rest of the match saw us play the better football but somehow not score.

Before half time Savage curled one wide (should have scored), in the second half Robinson had a good effort saved, then he hit the post from 25 yards and Bertin smashed one wide.

However in the last 5 minutes Crewe broke away twice and only 2 exellent saves by Flinders kept in level. 1-1 and a point, but I thought we deserved the 3.

Flinders - 9 my MOTM as made 4 excellent saves

El-Abd - 6 solid

Mayo - 8 good match, passed the ball out well - some great corners

Lynch - 7 excellent match, limping at the end

Butters - 8 how many headers did he win?

Cox - 7 beter match,

Hammond - 8 another good display - getting more consistent

Beritn - 9 pushed Flinders for MOTM, great tackles, great energy, get him signed up!

Robinson - 7 gained in confidence as the match progressed

Revell - 6 struggled to make an impact, not his best game but kept going

Savage - 8 battled hard, must be gaining in belief as the goals are coming

Hart (for Revell with about 20 minutes left) - 6 worked hard

Kuipers, Elphich, Elder and Ward not used
