Ravens View of Crewe

Last updated : 15 August 2005 By Mark R

Taking off Carole allowed Crewe to relax at the back and they suddenly stopped being on the defensive and worrying about our attacks and took over for long enough to score 2 goals!

The first half saw us on top for long periods. Knight had a superb first half, marking his man tightly and yet still linking up well with Carole and CKR.

The goal was well deserved, McShane remained up from a corner and he pulled the ball back across goal and Knight met the ball sweetly as he ran forward to knock it in from about 6 yards. We had long spells of domination, but couldn't get the second killer goal.

The shape of the team was lost after the subs and Crewe found space and time for two well taken headed goals. The 150 (possibly less) away fans couldn't believe it, nor could we!

Robinson injected some urgency into the attack when he came on and it was Robinson who slid in to a cross from Knight and it ended up in the path of Hammond. His first effort was well saved but he made sure from the rebound, to secure a point.

Carpenter was having a right go at somebody in the crowd, not idea what that was all about?

So a point gained or two points lost? We were the better team, despite being very poor in midfield.

Carole looked good on the wing and will worry defences.

We badly need a creative midfield player to play along with Knight and Hammond. Carpenter and Oatway were not good enough.

Henderson - 6 reasonable performance

Dodd - 6 slotted in at right back, better distribution than Tuesday night

McShane - 8 great player, one for the future, although sadly probably not with us!

Butters - 7 solid and better distribution again

Reid - 6 moved to left side, look reasonably comfortable

Oatway - 4 very poor game, should have been replaced by Nicolas

Carpenter - 3 dreadful match, looked slow, gave away the ball time after time

Carole - 7 good debut, looks promising

Knight - 7 chased, harried, attacked and scored a good goal

Hammond - 7 another point saving goal, play him centre midfield and get him more involved

CKR - 6 chased and held the ball up well, hopefully will come good

Turienzo - 5 tried several tricks that didn't come off

Robinson - 7 involved for the 7 minutes he was allowed to play

Nicolas - 5 didn't make much impression, sadly the team shape went AWOL when he came on, not his fault though!

Martin and EL-abd not used
