Ravens View of BHA 2-3 Derby

Last updated : 14 February 2005 By Mark R

Derby ended up in a kit number 1-11 with no names and shorts with proper squad numbers. I assume they had some sort of mix up with the proper away kit!

The game started brightly and we struggled with 4-4-2 and Hinshelwood in midfield doing a man to man marking job on there bloke with dreadful blond highlights.

We looked ragged at the back and soon Reid was easily bypassed, Virgo failed to anticipate the cross and Derby were 1 up. Moments later McCammon had a great shot on the turn, it was well saved, from the rebound Mayo crossed and McCammon thundered in the equaliser with a superb header.

Looked suspiciously offside but I wasn't complaining! After that both sides attacked, Derby looked very dangerous. They lofted up a high ball, Yelldell came out to punch over a defender and a forward, failed to connect properly and the ball dropped to another Derby player for a simple tap in.

Half time and McGhee rightly moved Hinshelwood to centre back, Virgo to right back and Reid to right midfield. He then made a double sub with Hart and Jones coming on for Reid and Harding.

Within moments we attacked and a driven cross was stroked home by McCammon. We had hardly sat down when a Derby player ran 20 yards to confront Knight and then raised his hand to him and it was time for an early bath.

Within 5 minutes of that Knight had been bought down twice and got two more booked. We looked like we had turned the game when we gave away a soft third goal.

Yelldell failed to hold a weak shot, Mayo cleared straight to a Derby player who played it in first time, caught our defence all over the place and a cool finish from number 11 settled the match.

We responded brilliantly. McCammon nearly had a hat trick but the keeper somehow got across to push his header wide. Knight flashed one wide, Jones hooked a cross when the goal was at his mercy and nobody connected as it flew across the goal, he then in the 4th minute of injury time ballooned a great chance way over the corner flag!

Deserved applause at the end, and good to see Gillingham, Coventry and Cardiff lose and Rotherham, Forest and Plymouth only gain a point.

A draw on Saturday will do me.

Yelldell - 5 very nervous, but I am sure he will bounce back next week

Reid - 4 very poor match

Mayo - 3 dreadful match

Butters - 6 held the defence together

Virgo - 5 caught out for the first goal

Hinshelwood - 3 different player when at the back

Carpenter - 7 battled hard

Nicolas - 7 got stuck in and was involved throughout the game

Harding - 4 isolated and looked uninterested at times

McCammon - 8 two great goals, nearly got a hat trick - made his size count and unsettled the defence

Knight - 7 1 red card and 2 yellow for fouls against him, shame he didn't score!

Jones - 7 made an impact, missed 2 great chances at the end

Hammond - 6 too little time to do much

Hart - 6 didn't make his usual impact, a bit quiet when he came on
