Poyet seeking competitive edge

Brighton boss Gus Poyet has warned his players that competition for places will intensify as the club edge closer to the start of the season. The Seagulls have played four friendlies so far, losing 3-2 at Eastbourne Borough on Saturday, and depart for Portugal on Monday to begin their week-long pre-season tour. Poyet told the club's official website: "We will take the games more seriously from now on. I will be picking the team, so there is now competition for places. "We have things we need to improve on, but we now have some time to work on that so it's nothing to worry about. "Together in Portugal we will have a lot of training sessions and time to work on plenty of defensive work, so it's going to be an absolutely fantastic week."
