No holiday for Brighton

Gus Poyet has warned his Brighton squad not to expect an easy ride when they embark on their pre-season trip to Portugal on Tuesday. The Seagulls, who were beaten by Eastbourne Borough on Saturday, fly out to the Algarve for some intense training and friendlies against Sunderland and Portimonense. And Poyet wants his side to up the ante and earn themselves a place in his starting side for their season-opener against Brighton on August 7. "Games are more serious. There is no more 50-50, no more 70-30. I'm going to start picking the team that is the best right now," he told the Argus. "Competition for places is from now on. On Wednesday night there are going to be a few disappointed so I need to see the reactions. "We will have plenty of training sessions, plenty of defensive work. We have got plenty of things to do. I think it is going to be a fantastic week."
