McGhee - Brighton to finish second

Last updated : 04 April 2004 By Bob Gear
Brighton put last weeks loss at Hillsborough behind them as they beat fellow play-off contenders Hartlepool 2-0 with goals from Leon Knight & Chris Iwelumo.

Bristol City beat QPR to move level on points with QPR, just 5 points ahead of Brighton now. We moved above Swindon as they lost 4-2 at Peterborough. Bournemouth and Luton both only managed draws at home, whilst Port Vale lost at bottom of the table Wycombe.

McGhee insists that Brighton are capable of finishing in second place and going up automatically.

"We are now five points behind Bristol City and Queens Park Rangers. I reckon we need to win our last six games to snatch the second automatic promotion place, which is a big ask, but we haven't given up hope."
