Match Report for BHA 0-1 Tranmere

A first-half goal by top-scorer Chris Greenacre ended Brighton's run of six wins and a draw from their previous seven outings.

Tranmere were the better side in the first half and could have taken the lead as early as the second minute when Chris McCready headed wide from Chris Shuker's corner.

Brighton were at full stretch to keep Rovers at bay, Adam El-Abd producing a saving tackle inside his own area to deny Greenacre, but there was no escape for the home side in the 20th minute.

Joel Lynch and Adam Hinshelwood were involved in a horrible mix-up. The ball should have been headed clear but neither of them took command of the situation which allowed Greenacre to race through and roll in his eighth of the season.

Brighton improved in the second half following a flare-up between El-Abd and Gareth Taylor. The Rovers striker went down and so then did El-Abd and both players were booked.

The introduction of Ipswich loan signing Dean Bowditch inspired a frantic finish from Brighton.

Jake Robinson, scorer of two hat-tricks in the previous four games, missed a great chance to equalise in the 89th minute. The young striker volleyed wide when a free-kick fell to him ten yards out.

Robinson almost rescued a point three minutes into stoppage time when a low cross by Bowditch reached him beyond the far post.

His drive was scrambled behind by goalkeeper Gavin Ward, who otherwise had little to do.

Ward became one of five Rovers players booked by referee Kevin Wright when he protested after the final whistle about the amount of time added on.
