Wicklow-born Paul McShane joined United on 8 July 2002.

The defender began his football career with St Joseph's Boys, before he became the club's first Irish signing since John O'Shea's arrival in August 1998.

McShane was part of the United side which beat Middlesbrough in the two-legged FA Youth Cup final in April 2003, and he is currently the youngest player in United's 2003/04 UEFA Champions League squad.
