Junior Lewis has joined the Albion at last, in a loan deal from Leicester that will last 3 months, and take us through to a possible Play-Off Final in early May.
Junior joined Leicester from Gillingham, where he was also with Peter Taylor, and was in the promotion winning squad. PT then took him to Leicester where he has failed to make an impact on the first team.
Player Profile from Leicesters Official Website
Junior completed a rags-to-riches story when he signed a three-year contract with City last season. A couple of years earlier he had been earning a fiver an hour packing computer chips in a North London warehouse. The 27-year-old made an instant impact on the Premiership with a series of calm, assured displays following his debut at Southampton in January. Originally on loan from Gillingham, City boss Peter Taylor moved quickly to make the deal permanent.
City paid out #50,000 to the Gills for the six feet three inch player who can operate in a variety of positions in midfield or defence. Good in the air, Junior has a good touch and distributes the ball precisely and accurately. City boss Taylor knows the strengths of the player well, having managed him at Dover and Gillingham.
Career ...
Junior came through the ranks as a teenager at Fulham but was to make only five senior appearances for the club before being released. He then spent several seasons in non-league and it was at Dover where he first worked with City manager Peter Taylor. After Peter moved to Gillingham, Junior played his non-league football closer to North London before being invited for a trial at the Priestfield Stadium. He took his chance well and was one of the stars of Gillingham's play-off final defeat of Wigan in 2000. Junior jumped at the chance to work again with Peter mid-way through last season.
