Lewes DC trying to bankrupt the Albion?

In what can only be a delaying tactic to try to force Brighton & Hove Albion FC out of business, Lewes District Council have decided to continue fighting against the planning permission given for the Stadium.

The Government conceded at the start of April that they had made a fundamental factual error when John Prescott announced his YES decision.

The error was that, in his approval letter, the Deputy Prime Minister described the Site as being 'within the built-up area of Brighton & Hove', in fact only part of the Site is within the built up area, another part is within the area permitted for development, whilst a small part is in Lewes DC.

Lewes District Council had raised 16 points that they felt were wrong with John Prescotts original letter. The Government lawyers agreed to concede on the one point, saying that this was the only error.

Lewes District Council's lead planning councillor, Neil Commin, told The Argus "We know that the High Court will quash the decision because the Government's lawyers have admitted it was flawed on one key point, which Mr Prescott then uses repeatedly to justify his decision.

"John Prescott's decision contained a number of fundamental flaws. The High Court will look at each of the points in our challenge and decide whether they are justifiable. "

Brighton & Hove Albion's Chief executive Martin Perry told The Argus "We are losing £20,000-a-week by not having a stadium and the council's motive is to surely ruin us.

"The council has demonstrated quite clearly that, contrary to what it says, it is only interested in trying to defeat this stadium by delay. "

Paul Samrah, leader of the newly formed Seagulls Party said "This is another delaying tactic which potentially will send the club bust. "

The Club and it's supporters must now wait for a High Court date to be fixed before the saga can continue.
