Green light for Falmer

Last updated : 12 June 2002 By Bob Gear
In a meeting lasting three hours, the planning Committee have voted in favour of a new Community Stadium at Falmer, Village Way North. An application is still in for Village way, South.

There are still a few hurdles to cross before the Albion are playing in their next home. Firstly agreement has to be reached with the university over land owned by them which forms part of the proposed Site. Should this agreement not be forthcoming then the Club will ask for the application for the Other Site to be heard.

In the next month the secretary of State will decide whether to 'call in the planning application'. This has been planned for by the Club and could add up to a year to the process mainly in the form of a Public Enquiry.

If everything goes according to plan and the application is not called in The Albion could be playing at Falmer from August 2004, assuming a succesful public enquiry the first game is then likely to be at the start of the 2005 season.

We're Going Home!
The Dream Lives On
The Stadium would be built in four phases as funds become available, the first phase, for which funding is already in place, would consist of the main West stand plus temporary seating with a total capacity of 14,318. Once all phases are built the Stadium would hold 23,000.

Enjoy the moment.

Division One Fixtures are out tomorrow, June 13th.
