He told the club website: "I am dismayed that any statement I made may have been misinterpreted.

"It was never my intention to infer that I was leaving the club. I have always been totally committed."

Forster is now back in contention for the weekend's trip to Leeds United.

He continued: "When I went to see the manager, my sole intention was to discuss my contract, in the hope that it would be extended for a further season.

At the end of the day he is our best striker and will hopefully now continue to score the goals to keep us up

"I did not put in a transfer request. However, as the club could not tell me whether I was part of their plans for the following season, it was made clear that I along with others out of contract at the end of the season, could pursue other options.

"The decision to delay the offering of contracts makes life very difficult, particularly for players of my age."

The return of Forster will bolster the Albion squad after Liam Dickinson joined Peterborough United on loan until the end of the season.
