Fans Demo planned for LibDem Conference

Last updated : 08 August 2006 By Bob Gear
This will begin at 4 pm, so fans are advised to assemble at around 3.30 pm or so. There will not be a march, but banners, placards, chants, etc, will be welcome.

The demonstration is not against all Lib-Dems, just against those who control Lewes District Council who seek to prevent the proposed stadium at Falmer by destroying the Albion if necessary. And, of course, Lewes MP Norman Baker.

So please make sure that any placards refer to Lewes Lib-Dems and/or Baker. We do not want to alienate the party nationally and deter them from returning to Brighton for Conference.

What we want to do is to point out to the leadership of the Lib-Dem party how their locallly elected Councillors in Lewes are alienating local people, destroying their chances locally.

It is suggested that you travel to the event by bus. Most buses pass Churchill Square which is a short walk from the Brighton Centre.

In addition there will be a pre-rally “vigil” behind a large banner opposite the Brighton Centre, but this is being restricted to non-stereotypical fans, e.g. women, children, disabled supporters. If you fall into one of these categories then by all means contact Brighton & Hove Albion Supporters Club who are co-ordinating this effort.

There are some other low-key “stunts” planned as well, so that the Liberal Democrats will, on a national scale, know what their Lewes colleagues are doing in this part of the world.
