Brizol Rooooverrs 0-1 Brighton & Hove Cockneys

We moved on to the City Centre to find the Tourist Info place and book a nights B&B. It was all quickly sorted (#22 each, not too bad) and headed there via another pub to drop our bags off.

We moved into the local hostelries then about 6pm got a taxi up to the Wellington near the ground. There was a good mixture of home and away fans, only spoilt by one local idiot who after a few beers got a but mouthy.

In his 'unusual' dialect he told us we had stupid accents and were cockneys. Ho ho I split my sides in laughter. The landlady got a bit annoyed and she told his mates to get him away from the pub.

Just before kick off we strolled up to the ground and I was amazed at our following. I was expecting a couple of hundred but there were over 500 at the game (515 according to the Argus).

The ground is quite nice. A strange big stand opposite us, a small canvas covered seating area behind the goal. We were down in one corner, next to another seated stand covering 2/3 of the side. The main noisy support came from a covered terrace at the far goal.

Before we got in the ground the Sussex Police pulled Scott and I aside as they wanted to know if we had been hassled in the pub. Apparently the lad winding us up is banned for life from watching Rovers.

As for the match, well we battled well, and looked a good side when we kept the ball on the floor. We were quite a long way from the Jones red card but seeing it on TV no complaints, just glad he didn't break the lads leg.

Roberts pulled off a couple of great saves, one a double effort kept us level at 0-0. Just after half time McPhee somehow hooked the ball over his shoulder and in the top corner. He celebrated in front of us, shirt waving around in his hand. He looked rather pleased!

After the game it was back to the pub where they had free chips and crackers and cheese. We then headed back to town, found a club, finally ended up in a kebab shop.

We started walking to our B&B until we finally realised we were lost. We hailed a cab, got back to our B&B after a 10 minute ride and crashed out in the room. The Fatty Taxman insisted on watching Trisha, and I have to say that it was riveting stuff, and we were soon joining in the debate. I fell asleep before the end and the others were too drunk to remember what happened!

Tuesday morning it was a late start and a midday train back to Brighton. So two away wins on the spin, when did that last happen!
