Brighton tell Focus-Wickes to keep their money

The proposed deal for the football league is to have advertising hoardings at every Championship Ground. Focus-Wickes, the company owned by despised ex-chairman Bill Archer, would be paying £20k a year to every club for 3 years.

Bill Archer was Chairman of the Albion when the Club sold the Goldstone Ground for retail use, with no alternative ground to play at. This was after a 'no profits for directors' clause was strangely omitted from the Clubs rules.

Brighton Fans still boycott Focus-Wickes.

The Albion spent 2 years ground sharing 70 miles away at Gillingham, and are currently in their sixth season playing in a converted Athletics Stadium with a capacity of less than 7000.

A Public enquiry into the planning application for a new Stadium on the edge of Brighton will re-start in January.

The Club have just launched an appeal for donations from fans, hoping to raise £2m to cover a cash deficit caused by the slow planning process.

£700, 000 of this was a pay-off to Archer.

Bill Archer paid £56.25 for a controlling interest in the Albion.

Albion chairman Dick Knight said "It was not a difficult decision for us to turn down this money, even when the club is strapped for cash and we are, at this very moment, asking fans for their help.

"Despite our plight we do not feel it is appropriate to become associated with a company run by someone who supporters hold responsible for the position we are now in."
