Brighton Fans force ASDA to drop petition

Last updated : 01 February 2004 By Bob Gear
The Statement is copied below.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Following action taken by members of North Stand Chat and other Albion supporters, Richard Hebberd (Albion's Safety Advisor) has met with the new manager at Brighton Asda.

The petition to the council has been pulled from the store and will not be part of any submission Asda may make to the council. Any submission they do make (if indeed they do make one) will be based purely on technical grounds.

In addition, meetings have been arranged for next week between the transport consultants, Richard and the store manager to overcome any technical concerns Asda may have.

We will keep North Stand Chat updated with the outcome of those meetings. In the meantime the club would like to ask supporters to suspend any proposed actions against Asda.

The actions taken by NSC have directly led to the opening of negotiations between both parties and the withdrawal of the petition; the club is extremely grateful to NSC and its users for this.

YOU can still help in the battle for the Park & Ride Scheme

Representations about the proposed Carden Avenue Park & Ride must be with the City Council no later than 2nd February.

Send an e-mail NOW - to peter.bloxham@brighton-hove.gov.uk

Include the heading Brighton & Hove (Carden Avenue, Brighton) (Parking Places and One-Way) Order 200*

And write something like this:-

I am writing in support of the above draft order, which is essential to achieve increased capacity at Withdean Stadium.

This proposal will enable Brighton and Hove Albion to ease congestion in the area surrounding Withdean Stadium when extra seats are installed. The revenue from these extra seats is vital if the club is to flourish until the next phase of its development - the building of a 22,000 seat stadium at Falmer.
