The Plymouth man, who only arrived on Thursday, said: "I'm enjoying my time with Brighton already. The aim is to get as high as possible in the league and score plenty of goals.
"I see myself settling here but I have another year left on my contract at Plymouth and nothing has been decided. (Manager) Gus (Poyet) told me to go out and enjoy it and I hope I repaid him."
Barnes also admitted his goal had an element of luck about it, adding: "I closed down the left-back and shot. I don't know what the keeper was doing but he fumbled it and in it went."
