Ardiles & Maradona - PR Stunt or Money up Front?

Last updated : 05 October 2005 By Bob Gear
Reports surfaced in some of the Sunday papers that Ardiles was being lined up for the Managers Job. Brighton Chairman Dick Knight immediately dismissed these stories as total nonsense.

The stories have now moved on to suggest that the pair are ready & willing to invest in the Club should we get a positive decision for John Prescott ona Stadium at East Brighton near Falmer

Steve Perryman, an ex-team-mate of Ardiles and now director of football at Conference club Exeter, said to the Argus: "Ossie is desperate to get involved again in English football.

"He's had several seasons' experience abroad and he is ready for a new challenge. All I know is Ossie wants to be involved in a club in any way he can. It would be a major crime if he wasn't involved in English football again."

Perryman confirmed: "As far as I know Ossie is close to Maradona"

In reply to these stories BHA chief executive Martin Perry said: "The truth is we have had no contact whatsoever with either of them. Clearly if we get a positive decision on our new stadium then the plan was always to seek out new investment.

"If anyone did wish to invest in the club then the right way to do it would be via a direct approach to the club in a confidential manner."

All of this is good publicity for the Albion at a time when the board will be looking for new investors to get the Stadium built and retain Championship status.

Any immediate investment could help to stabilise the club in this division until a new Stadium is built.

Brighton's home kit is currently the same colur blue & white stripes as the Argentine National Kit.
