So yet another dull season comes to an end, how I wish I supported a team
that meant promotion, relegation, championships, a new manager every season................
..........oh I do!
I think most of us would have gladly accepted that going into the final game of the season we still had a chance of staying up.
After moving out the bottom 3 a few weeks ago, people hopes shot up.
I hate to say it, but IMHO we got relegated on Saturday (along with Grimsby).
The team looked nervous, we had the better chances first half, but second half we played like we did in the 12 run defeat.
A very strange away trip for me this one, as I did not visit a pub before the game!
It's a busy time at work , not helped by time off for recent England matches!
I got to Brighton station just after 5pm and the place was awash with Police, at least 50 and outside sat 8, yes 8 Police vans. Lots of people were being pulled aside and section 60 was in full flow!
The second half display on Wednesday was the worst this season IMHO.
The first half saw two poor sides struggle to put passes together and fail to
take any half chances.
....well that's what it felt like!
To get to Gillingham for opening time we had to catch the 7.24 from Worthing, head in the wrong direction to Barnham then up to London then back down to Gillingham arriving at around 10.50.
Phew, this season is turning into yet another nail bitter!
I hold my hands up and admit that I thought we were dead and buried after the Walsall and Wimbledon defeats and accepted relegation.
After our win against Wolves and the luck appearing to have turned I set out
to Bradford a lot more optimistic. We arrived into Leeds about 10.30 and
caught the first train to Bradford Forest Square.
I went back to the old routine of being in the Duke of Wellington for
opening time, then moved on to the Evening Star to meet up with the Brighton
Wolves supporters plus a few of the London Wolves that had tickets.
The joker in black, Ross, turned the game on its head by sending off Hart, his assistants managed to stop attack after attack with some dreadful offside decisions.
....just how did we come away with nothing yesterday?
Answer , a one minute spell of dreadful play by Pethick to gift them a goal,
followed up by an amazing miss by #5m rated Zamora, followed by 2 brilliant
stops by the Walsall keeper
Everyone was in an expectant mood after our good display against Coventry,
then somebody spots on the Sky Sports scrolling news that Sidwell had been withdrawn as basically he had signed for Reading!
After Saturday I have revised my opinion of Coventry pubs (and Virgin
trains.....well until next time we use them!)
We arrived into Coventry station at 10.27 (due 10.30!!!) and after
consulting the good beer guide headed for Spon Street.
We left Brighton at 1pm, picked up a Forest fan in London and still made the
Trip to Jerusalem at 5pm. We met up with the lads who had come by train,
the famous Rice Crispies, Judith plus Jon V and quite a few other
Albion fans.
